The South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Hub is backing a series of information and guidance events taking place across the region to support young people and employers.

Staff from the hub recently attended an apprenticeship information, guidance and networking event called Apprenticeship Live in Rotherham. Apprenticeship Live aimed to connect young people and adults with regional businesses that have apprenticeship vacancies.

Organised by Rotherham Investment and Development Office and South Yorkshire Careers Hub, the event was held at AESSEAL New York Stadium, Rotherham. Visitors had the opportunity to speak to exhibiting employers to find out more about apprenticeship vacancies.

More than 300 young people and around 25 employers attended the event on 24th April 2024, which also included a panel discussion about apprenticeships.

Now the hub team are looking forward to being involved in more awareness raising events to across the region. You can meet the hub team at the following upcoming sessions, which are aimed at young people and adults who are interested in starting an apprenticeship:

  • Barnsley Apprenticeship Event. Tuesday, 18th June 2024 from 4.00pm until 7.00pm. Barnsley Football Club, Oakwell Stadium, Barnsley. S71 1ET.

  • Doncaster Apprenticeship Event. Wednesday, 19th June 2024, from 4.00pm until 5.30pm. CAST, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. DN1 3BU. Book your tickets here.

Both events will offer information, advice and guidance including workshops providing details about apprenticeships and how to apply for one. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet employers from a range of different industry sectors who will share details of their apprenticeship vacancies. Training providers will also be on hand to provide guidance on the apprenticeship qualifications they offer and how to apply.

In addition, the following session is aimed at employers who are interested in finding out more about degree apprenticeships including courses and funding support:

  • Sheffield Hallam Degree Apprenticeships Event. Wednesday, 12th June and Thursday, 13th June. Attendees only need to sign up to one day. Register here.

Claire Eley, Coordinator, South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Hub, said: “It was great to support the successful initiative in Rotherham where we were able to provide information and advice to scores of young people attending. We are looking forward to meeting more young people and employers who are interested in the benefits of apprenticeships either for their careers or business growth at future events.”

The hub provides free and impartial advice to Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield businesses, connecting them with the best training provider for their needs.

Its remit involves raising awareness amongst young people and parents and carers and matching apprentice candidates to vacancies.

The hub is funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and the South Yorkshire Colleges Partnership.
